Lidar Ratio Regional Transfer Method for Extinction Coefficient Accuracy Improvement in Lidar Networks

نویسندگان

چکیده

Lidar networks are essential to study the three-dimensional distribution of aerosols on a regional scale. At present, both Mie-scattering lidar (ML) and advanced lidars being used in networks. The latter can retrieve extinction coefficients without strict assumptions ratio, such as Raman (RL) or high-spectral-resolution (HSRL). In order balance data quality instrument costs for network, ratio transfer method network is proposed this paper. We developed Ratio Aerosol Fraction Non-linear Regression (LR-AFNR) model between corresponding absorbing aerosol fraction (this paper studied two types aerosols: dust carbonaceous). sun photometer retrieval was medium HSRL certain range MLs. This be input parameter ML enables improvement coefficient accuracy. results show that LR-APNR applicable atmospheric conditions with high mineral carbonaceous loading, maximum relative error reduced from 46% (dust) 64% (carbonaceous aerosol) 20%.

Improvement of Lidar Data Accuracy Using Lidar-Specific Ground Targets

With recent advances of lidar technology, the accuracy potential of lidar data has significantly improved. State-ofthe-art lidar systems can achieve 2 to 3 cm ranging accuracy under ideal conditions, which is the accuracy level required by engineering scale mapping. However, this is also the accuracy range that cannot be realized by routine navigation-based direct sensor platform orientation. F...

Determination of Backscatter-Extinction Coefficient Ratio for LIDAR-Retrieved Aerosol Optical Depth Based on Sunphotometer Data

Backscattered power data from the Doppler LIght Detection And Ranging (LIDAR) systems at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) could be used to obtain the extinction coefficient of the troposphere by combining with the meteorological optical range (MOR) data from the nearby forward scatter sensor. The Range-height Indicator (RHI) scan of the LIDAR is then utilized to derive the vertical pr...

Retrieval of aerosol backscatter, extinction, and lidar ratio from Raman lidar with optimal estimation

Optimal estimation retrieval is a form of nonlinear regression which determines the most probable circumstances that produced a given observation, weighted against any prior knowledge of the system. This paper applies the technique to the estimation of aerosol backscatter and extinction (or lidar ratio) from two-channel Raman lidar observations. It produces results from simulated and real data ...

Extinction-to-backscatter ratio of Asian dust observed with high-spectral-resolution lidar and Raman lidar.

Extinction-to-backscatter ratio or lidar ratio is a key parameter in the issue of backscatter-lidar inversions. The lidar ratio of Asian dust was observed with a high-spectral-resolution lidar and a combined Raman elastic-backscatter lidar during the springs of 1998 and 1999. The measured values range from 42 to55 sr in most cases, with a mean of 51 sr. These values are significantly larger tha...
